This beautiful Topsy Turvey Doll is from 1959 and in very good condition! These dolls became popular during slavery with a duo purpose. First, it allowed the slave mother to teach her child how to play with white children vs. black children. Second, it is understood that most masters didn't want to see black dolls in their homes and the doll would be flipped upon his entrance.
